cultivator

Unlike agricultural machines that run on an electric motor, those on gasoline are a little more difficult to start correctly. Because a wrong approach can damage the engine, find out in this article exactly what steps you need to follow to use a heat engine with a heat engine efficiently and for a long time.

The cultivator is an automated tool intended for agricultural works, which is often used with several interchangeable accessories, which allow the execution of various operations, specific to the preparation of the land for sowing or maintenance of crops. It can thus be used together with a wood chipper, earth cutter, snow blade, plow, potato hoe, etc.

Unlike the chainsaw, the cultivator offers better power and stability, which is why it is recommended for larger areas of land and difficult soils. Ruris is among the brands available on the Romanian market that offers this category of products together with the necessary accessories. If you are among those who have recently brought such a device to your household and you are not sure how to start it, we help you with a short guide that covers the essential aspects of preparing and starting such a machine.

Machine inspection

Before each use, no matter how familiar you are with the equipment and even if you have used it last time, it is recommended to check the cultivator carefully. Pay special attention to fixing the accessories you are working with this time and check the visible screws, tightening with a suitable wrench where you feel that the socket is not perfect. Carefully evaluate all areas involving the presence of an oil or gasoline tank, looking for potential bumps or cracks.

Protective equipment

Using a cultivator mainly involves exposure to the following risks: noise loud enough to affect hearing, projecting dirt, dust or other elements to the face and eyes, overloading the palms and hanging the material of loose clothing in cutting knives or other machine elements.

Before you start using it, you must therefore ensure the following safety measures: goggles (not eyeglasses), available in most tool shops, headphones, protective gloves, appropriate footwear (boots) and pants with size straight or up, preferably inserted into the boots.

Refuel the engine with oil

Most of the Ruris models include a 600ml oil tank, but it is good to check this technical feature in the product manual you bought, because there may be exceptions. If it is the first time you supply it with oil, add the whole amount. For the next uses, you will have to check the existing level, unscrewing the cap from the crankcase and observing if the oil reaches the first top thread.

In general, it is recommended to use Ruris 4t Max oil, but you can replace this option with any formula classified API at CI-4 / SL level or above. You will make the filling easier using an extended funnel with a transparent hose, which will allow you to follow the flow of the liquid, preventing leaks when filling the tank.

Fill the gas tank

Regarding the used fuel, as in the case of any petrol equipment, it is recommended to use a quality product, so avoid the cheapest options. Ruris cultivators are powered by unleaded gasoline, within the capacity of the tank, preferably with a funnel made of metal.

Always take this step in an open space, so not indoors, and as far away as possible from any flame or source of sparks or fire, including lighted cigarettes. In order not to pollute the environment, it is good to avoid pouring gasoline in the tank when the cultivator is on the farm or near the plants or to use a polyethylene foil under the funnel to catch any fallen drops.

Load the transmission oil bath

For the transmission oil bath from Ruris cultivator models, it is generally recommended to use Ruris G-Tronic oil, but you can replace it with any formula, regardless of brand, as long as it is an API-classified variant of GL-4 or above. Consult the technical manual to find out exactly what the capacity of the oil bath is before you start filling it. The maximum feed level is indicated by the bottom of the hole used for casting.

And in this case it is advisable to use a suitable plan to reduce losses. It is good to know that usually the cultivators from Ruris are not delivered with oil to the reducer and that the oil change is mandatory at most 25 hours of operation.

Fill the air filter container with oil

The air filter includes a container that must be supplied with clean engine oil. It is a small but essential amount. Usually the container is made of white plastic that allows you to easily notice the oil level and the line that indicates the maximum volume you need to pour.

Last preparations before starting

Before you actually start the cultivator, you need to take a few precautions. First of all, it is important that within a radius of about 5m around the machine there are no objects or people with whom the device could accidentally come into contact, causing damage to the equipment or injury to the person.

The cultivator must be placed in a horizontal position, with the wheel mounted and raised from the ground, and the knives must be installed correctly and secured with fasteners. Also check that the cables are installed properly and that the commands respond promptly.

Starting the cultivator

To start the cultivator correctly, you must pull the shock damper and switch the fuel damper to ensure power. Before each start it is important to pull the starter four times, gently and slowly, to start the engine. You can then operate at full throttle.

Pull the starter cord 10–15cm, then completely, until the engine starts and changes the position of the shock damper. Reduce the acceleration level to half the intensity and operate the knives. At this point you are ready to start working.

Precautions

On most models of cultivators it is good not to use reversing over distances longer than 10m. Also, if you use idling, without load, for periods longer than 10 minutes, you risk damaging the drive belts.
